Exams, Projects, Professionalism and VALUES,ETHICS

Well, I know some of you are disappointed about not writing anything on the blog for a long time. Honestly, I tried to something twice in between but due to some badly screwing work, I could not complete the writings and once I get disturbed from something, I find it almost impossible to get going next time. This time the situation is bit very complex. My exams for the second semester got over yesterday. In my whole life till date, I guess I never believed in the concepts of getting marks to pass the exams and after mugging down something one goes to the exam hall to vomit everything whatever one has read in the previous night. Here, the stress is too much in making a person a dumb cow, which can be taken wherever one wants to. The stress is on vomiting correctly. Exams are just a medium to showcase your intelligence to the outside world for a very brief period of time.

Then there are Projects. The project creates a very wonderful situation here. The moment a project is declared, the game of Politics, Diplomacy starts growing its roots here. A single person gets involved in various groups, goes on to ditch someone, joins some other and the whole game goes on to create a chaos and environment of “HATREDNESS” and “ENIMITY”,”BETRAYAL”. Sometimes, the last moment ditching takes a person nowhere to a person in the group, who may be bit weaker in some section of it. Even I was a victim of this in this semester, but the worst I guess who suffered was one of my good friend. He is a Chemical Engineer and he passed long back and after spending some time in Job, he is here to do MTech in IT. He still struggles with coding. Now when he formed a group, the group splited at the last moment leaving him nowhere. The Result he could not do the project and nobody knows how he will be fair in this semester, atleast in that subject.
Sometimes, as one of my colleague, who worked with me in the past, is working in (one currently in a bit revolting mood); says “Maintain Professionalism in Projects”. But can anybody say if I am wrong with my definition of “Professionalism”, described later. Is Professionalism is all about “working in the group to accomplish some of your own selfish objective”? Is it all about YOU? Is it all about SELFISHNESS? Is it all about you want to achieve at the cost of others?

For me, the answer to all this is strictly “NO”, “NO” and “NEVER”. Professionalism is all about “LOVE”, its all about “TRUST”, “BELEIF”. It’s all about defining oneself for the sake of others. Let me draw a beautiful analogy of this to the upbringing of a child.

When a child is born in a family, everybody becomes very happy and devote their all time to imbibe right values and cultures. The whole family work together for the right upbringing of the child. Still among the all family members, father defines some terms for the e survival and the whole family follows it. Sometimes the decisions may be wrong but the whole family sit together to sort it out and resolve it. The whole family also stands together in case of disasters. And the head of the family usually takes the responsibility to lead.

In a very similar way, a project can be taken as a child whose success depends on the team members of the project. The whole team sees one or two person as their guide and leader who guide them to their success of the project. Now their may be short term success goals which can give some happiness but the long term goal needs to be visualized properly for the success of the project. The whole members need to “Believe” and “Trust” each other. They should create an environment for “LOVE”, “AFFECTION” and be like a family. They should not go after their own selfishness; rather the success of the whole group should be their motto.

But unfortunately, very few understand this, which raises a lot of concern. Is this can take INDIA in the list of Developed countries by 2020? Is this the attitude that can fulfill the visualizations of our esteemed President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam? Is this that all the values and culture that our family, parents and ancestors has given us?

We need to pose these questions to ourselves. We, Indians need to change our attitude to build and leave a stamp of our identity, our family; in turn helping to build prosperous society and INDIA. Attitudes make and destroy a relationship and also a work and “LOVE, TRUST” is the most important ingredient to it. Once one has a knot to it, it is visible to everybody and the thread of Relationship becomes weak.

So, as Confucius rightly says,

To put the world right in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life; we must first set our hearts right.

And Frank Lloyd Wright says,
The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.
